Nottingham Trent University Psychology Students Make Generous Donations to Support René House

We're thrilled to shine a spotlight on an inspiring group of Psychology students from Nottingham Trent University who recently made an amazing contribution to René House CIC.

As part of their mentorship program with Impact People & Change, the NTU students developed a thoughtful social action project addressing homelessness in our community, and the issue of period poverty amongst women experiencing homelessness.

These dedicated students created an initiative that recognised various needs among the homeless population, including access to hygiene and self-care products. Their approach was both practical and considerate, showing a great insight into the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals.

What did these students do to make a difference?

  • Organising a successful bake sale on campus to generate funds
  • Creating an effective GoFundMe campaign (with an initial target of £250)
  • Raising an impressive £400 donation that will help everyone in our care
  • Putting together thoughtful hygiene packs with essential products, including sanitary items
  • Partnering with René House CIC to ensure their contributions reached those most in need within the local community

After such a successful fundraising campaign, we had the pleasure of welcoming the students into the René House office last week where they delivered their carefully prepared hygiene packs and their generous £400 donation.

This substantial financial contribution will benefit everyone we support here at René House, making a meaningful difference across our services.

Why are these types of donations important?

At René House CIC, we support a diverse community with varied needs. While we typically serve more men than women experiencing homelessness, the students' thoughtful inclusion of sanitary products in their hygiene packs demonstrates their attention to the often overlooked issues of homelessness, and these everyday necessities for the women and girls we support.

As well as finding a way to support us in addressing these everyday specific needs, they were also able to provide significant financial support that benefits our entire community and operation. This balanced approach shows a remarkable understanding of how to create a meaningful impact.

Thank you!

We would like to say the BIGGEST thank you to all of the students involved in the initiative for choosing René House as the recipient of their project and donations. We'd also like to extend our gratitude to everyone who donated to their cause, Impact for Change for mentoring these empathetic and socially aware young adults, and Nottingham Trent University for their support.

The £400 donation and hygiene packs are already making a tangible difference in the lives of the individuals we support daily.

These students exemplify how thoughtful social action can address important community needs. Their dedication reminds us of the positive change that can happen when people identify opportunities to help and take the necessary steps to make a difference.

Thank you again to this remarkable group of students for their generosity and commitment to supporting homeless individuals in Nottingham – your contributions truly matter.
