If you haven’t yet heard, The Hub is our new social support space we’re developing in Nottingham City centre to help people experiencing homelessness and instability.

Until last month, The Hub had no kitchen — a big problem for a social space built around bringing people together.

We’re over the moon to share that that's now changed...

Kitchen company Smile Kitchens has very kindly offered to donate a fully bespoke kitchen to The Hub.

How their support came about.

We put out a public call for support last month, with no guarantee of a response. Smile Kitchens came forward shortly after.

Rather than offering a standard, pre-built setup, the company worked directly with us to design something specific to the space.

Its designers asked about the style, how the kitchen would realistically be used day to day, and what would need to withstand regular use by a wide range of people. From those conversations, they produced a bespoke design built around the room itself, then offered to fund and supply the design at no cost.

The new kitchenette is due to be delivered and installed at The Hub in the coming weeks.

A heartfelt thank you to Smile Kitchens

The kitchen being installed will mark the first big milestone we’ve reached at The Hub, and it will become a central point for residents and visitors when the space opens.

This kitchen will truly be a kitchen with purpose.

It takes a very special kind of business to go out of their way to support non-profits and charities in this way.

Smile Kitchens' donation forms part of a wider network of community support behind The Hub's development, which is expected to open its doors in the coming months.
