Calling All Nottingham Joiners & Furniture Makers, Help Us Build Something Special for The Hub

We're on the lookout for a talented local joiner or furniture maker to help us create a centrepiece table for The Hub — our new community support space in Nottingham city centre.

Rather than sourcing a standard table, or relying on donated office furniture that might not quite fit the vibe, we would love to commission something bespoke: a modular, reconfigurable communal table that can adapt to however the space is being used on any given day — whether that's workshops, group sessions, individual learning, or simply open social space.

What we're picturing

We need a table that can:

  • Separate and reconfigure for different session types
  • Move easily on castors between layouts
  • Work as one large communal table, or split into smaller collaborative setups
  • Be designed specifically around how The Hub will actually function day to day

We see it becoming something of a centrepiece in the space, almost a symbolic "Community Table," built by and for the people who'll use it.

We'd also love to explore using sustainable, low-cost raw materials, like OSB board, to keep the project budget-friendly without compromising on character.

Why work with us on this

We'd love to collaborate publicly with a local maker on the whole process — from early sketches and material choices through to the build and installation — and document it as part of our 'Kit Out The Hub' campaign.

That means real visibility for your work, alongside full recognition built into the finished piece itself (whether that's a subtle makers mark or advertising materials)

We'd also be interested to hear from design students or course teams at local universities who might want to take this on as a live brief or portfolio project.

If this sounds like something you, or someone you know, would be interested in, please reach out to Shani at shani.jayawardena@renehousecic.com.

We'd love to talk through ideas!
